Festival Details
The Happy Valley XL Improv Festival, a showcase of talent and community in the heart of State College, PA, is set for May 15th - 18th. Thanks to an $18,000 Tourism Marketing Grant from the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, we're excited to host over 80 improvisers and hundreds of spectators, highlighting the charm of downtown State College and its surroundings during a beautiful time of year. Last year, submissions grew by over 20%, with 38 teams eager to participate, demonstrating the festival's growing appeal. With only 17 spots, competition was fierce, drawing teams from across the U.S., including San Francisco, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, NYC, Philadelphia, and Tampa Bay.
Attendees can look forward to a blend of iconic local experiences and immersive improv activities. Mornings will feature tours of Penn State, downtown scavenger hunts, and visits to The Creamery, while afternoons and evenings will be packed with workshops led by renowned improvisers and performances at the Blue Brick Theatre. Celebrations will continue post-show at local businesses, fostering a vibrant community spirit.
This year, we continue to attract top talent to our workshops, expanding the festival's reach and enriching the cultural fabric of State College and beyond. Past festivals have featured industry stars like Dana Powell (Modern Family), Jaime Moyer (Bob’s Burgers), and Nick Armstrong (Parks & Rec), contributing to a truly exceptional Happy Valley experience.

As part of the festival, we are bringing in professional improvisers from around the country to teach workshops to our local improv community and out-of-town improvisers in attendance. Our workshops will be announced soon.
As a workshop sponsor, you are helping to offset the cost of travel, accommodations, and pay for the workshop instructors. This is our biggest expense and helps keep the XL Festival one of the most sought after small festivals in the country.
